Exterior

You can take measures on the outside of your home both to protect against theft from your garden and to further discourage thieves from breaking into your house:

  • Garden statues and ornaments should be anchored to the ground and if possible alarmed.
  • CCTV and infra red detection is becoming an increasingly viable option for gardens containing valuable items.
  • Security lighting should be installed close to any valuable items.
  • Do not leave any items a burglar could use to break into your house close to hand. These include garden tools, wheel barrows and ladders.
  • Make fences and windows difficult to access by planting high thorned bushes underneath.
  • Outbuildings should be securely locked or padlocked.
  • Always keep lawnmovers and such like, in a locked garage or outbuilding.
