General Security

In addition to good quality locks and security systems here are other measures you can take to improve the security of your home:

• Fit a cover or letter cage/box inside your door behind the letterbox to prevent would-be thieves from attempting to release the door by inserting their arms through the aperture.
  
• Photographic records of valuable possessions are enormously useful in the event of a claim. These do not have to be professional in order to assist in providing evidence of ownership and value.
  
• Doormats and flower pots are very obvious places for burglars to try when looking for a spare key. Do not store keys there.
  
• Mark your possessions with your postcode using UV pen. Your local crime prevention officer can offer advice on this matter and others.
  
• Join your local neighbourhood watch scheme.
